Let’s talk about the elephant in the room and the monkey on your back.  Actually, let’s take the elephant on the road and get that monkey off your back!

On average, 1 in 8 men will have depression and 1 in 5 men will experience anxiety at some stage of their lives. While women are more likely to experience depression and anxiety, men are less likely to talk about it. This increases the risk of their depression or anxiety going unrecognised and untreated.

This is something hits close to home for the Laser Plumbing & Electrical family, the largest plumbing and electrical contracting network across Australia and New Zealand. So they’re doing something about it.

Supporting the work of beyondblue, a group of Laser Plumbing & Electrical tradies have banded together for the Laser Group Monkey Off Your Back Ride - a 7 day ride from Melbourne to Cairns on motorbikes that aims to generate awareness and funds for beyondblue.

Departing Melbourne on June 6, 2017, the group will travel 3,274 kilometres over eight days through regional Australia along the National Highway M31.  The journey will see the riders making pit stops along the way for fundraiser events and public meet and greets with four time Bathurst 1000 champion, Steve Richards, who will be accompanying our tradies on the ride to show his support for the cause.

Get on board and help contribute to our journey by donating to the team or a rider, and let’s help reduce the stigma of mental illness and depression in Australia.

beyondblue

Many of us have been affected by depression and anxiety, either personally or through family, friends or colleagues. Right now, over 1 million Australian adults have depression and 2 million are experiencing anxiety. On average, 8 people take their lives every day in Australia.

beyondblue’s vision is for all people in Australia to achieve their best possible mental health.

The funds and awareness you raise will help us enormously as we work to support people to protect their mental health and to recover when they are unwell; reduce people’s experiences of stigma and discrimination; and improve people’s opportunities to get effective support and services at the right time.

With your support, we will continue to innovate and deliver new services and programs; distribute free information resources and share powerful stories of hope and recovery across Australia; fund world-leading research; roll out evidence-based campaigns and advocate for all people in Australia affected by depression, anxiety and suicide.

Your support will also help us keep up with growing demand for our 24/7 phone and online Support Service – which is staffed by mental health professionals and provides life-saving support to hundreds of people every day.
