Garden Releaf 2018

Garden Releaf is an innovative program established by Garden Centres of Australia (GCA) in 2014 to help people understand the numerous benefits that spending time in a garden or simply being surrounded by living greenery can have on a person’s health and wellbeing.

Independent garden centres across Australia will once again be supporting the Garden Releaf program in 2018 with Garden Releaf day set for Saturday April 14 Focusing on the benefits of plants and gardens to enrich our lives, garden centres will be exploding with colour, plenty of fun activities and informative events across the day (and for some the week end). The aim is to encourage people to get into their garden and get planting – or take someone to a garden to just enjoy.

N.B. Garden Centres in Western Australia have different dates to avoid a clash with the WA Garden Week. Metropolitan members will have Garden Releaf Day on Saturday March 17 and our country member in Berriden will hold Garden Releaf Day on Saturday April 14.

Gardens and colour continue to prove to be beneficial for positive mental health and wellbeing so Garden Releaf day will be themed around Colour for Health. The Garden centres will be bursting with colour and beautiful plants and we will once again support beyond blue through related fund raising activities in the lead up to and on the day.

Check the website for specific information on each Independent Garden Centre in early February 2018.

Many of us have been affected by anxiety and depression, either personally or through family, friends or colleagues. Right now, over 1 million people in Australia experience depression and 2 million are experiencing anxiety. On average, 8 people take their lives every day in Australia.

beyondblue’s vision is for all people in Australia to achieve their best possible mental health.

The funds and awareness you raise will help us enormously as we work to support people to protect their mental health and to recover when they are unwell, reduce people’s experiences of stigma and discrimination, and improve people’s opportunities to get effective support and services at the right time.

With your support, we will continue to innovate and deliver new services and programs, distribute free information resources and share powerful stories of hope and recovery across Australia, fund world-leading research, roll out evidence-based campaigns and advocate for all people in Australia affected by anxiety, depression and suicide.

Your support will also help us keep up with demand for our 24/7 phone and online Support Service – which is staffed by mental health professionals and provides life-saving support to hundreds of people every day.
